“Neither the famous narrows of Ollioules in Provence, nor the Pancorbo gorge in Spain, nor the Alps, nor the wild mountains of Tyrol and Switzerland have anything that can be compared with what I saw in Bulgaria at Belogradchik.”
Belogradchik is ringed by strange rock formations and by the Belogradchik fortress. We describe eleven landmarks in the town and around it:
Belogradchik is 185 km north-west of Sofia, 70 km north-west of Montana and 50 km south-west of Vidin. There are three roads from Sofia:
Sofia – Hemus motorway – Vitinya pass – Vratsa – Montana – Belogradchik
Sofia – Petrohan pass – Montana – Belogradchik
Sofia – Petrohan pass – Dolni Lom village – Belogradchik
